A month after Exeter’s Gourmet Burger Kitchen announced its sudden closure, work has begun on its new replacement.
Devon Live understands that Franco Manca, a Neapolitan sourdough pizza restaurant chain, will be opening ‘very soon’ at the former burger chain located at the Guildhall Shopping Centre.
GBK closed for the final time at 3pm on Thursday, April 5, after signs suddenly appeared in the restaurant windows telling customers of the news.
Franco Manca started out as a market stall in Brixton in 2008, has now grown into a pizza chain with restaurants all over the UK, including one in Bristol, which is currently Devon’s nearest branch.
Specialising in sourdough pizza, its menu only has seven pizzas to choose from including a specials menu which changes daily.
The pizzas range from a classic tomato, mozzarella and basil to a tomato, cured chorizo and mozzarella pizza.
Pizza fans can also win a table on their opening night at the Exeter branch, according to their website.
The post reads: “The sourdough pizza pioneers are coming.
“We’ll be opening our doors in Exeter later this year and we’ve got free sourdough pizza up for grabs.
“To win a group table, enter your details below. The event and opening dates will be announced nearer the time, so please check back for an update. The competition will close 4 days prior to the event.”
The pizza chain, which hasn’t confirmed an opening date is also on the hunt for staff to work there.
According to the job advert they are looking for an assistant manager to work at the new pizzeria.
The job advert reads: “Ciao! Franco Manca, the Neapolitan sourdough pizza restaurant is looking for an experienced Assistant Manager (or two!) to join us in our brand new Exeter restaurant coming soon. We offer competitive salaries, and share of tips.
“Franco Manca is a successful, growing company, with the emphasis on fresh and simple food, made with pride. Since our 2008 opening in Brixton’s market, we have created an amazing reputation by using nothing but the freshest ingredients to produce our traditional Neapolitan sourdough Pizzas.
Our menu has just 7 pizzas and specials which change daily, sourcing only top-quality ingredients.
